HELICOPTER JUMPS AT CSC INDEPENDENCE BOOGIE AND MY FIRST MALFUNCTION IN JULY 2019

(Click HERE If No Video Displayed Above)

Video clip of two skydives from a helicopter at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center (CSC) yearly Independence Boogie on July 6, 2019 with myself and another jumper Tony Williams filming me. The Robinson R-44 "Raven II" holds 3 jumpers plus the pilot and jumps were from about 4,500 feet above the ground with a planned opening around 2,500 feet. On my second jump, I experienced a bag lock malfunction (my first after 27 years of jumping and 761 jumps) of my main parachute and had to use my reserve. The main bag remained closed and I was able to grab it and stow it between my legs and fly my reserve for an uneventful landing. This video should be an example and reminder to always be prepared for a malfunction on every jump. Thanks to the staff and jumper Tony Williams for some video and providing yet another fantastic event every year in northern Illinois!
